Kamala Harris

 Kamala Devi Harris was born on October 20, 1964. She is an American politician. Harris is the first vice president to be female and highest-ranking female official in U.S. History, as being the first African American and second Asian American vice president. As a member of the Democratic Party, she has previously served as attorney general of California from 2011 to 2017, and as an United States senator representing California from 2011 to 2021. Harris was born and raised in Oakland, California. Harris started her career in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later recruited by the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she was the San Francisco district attorney. She was elected Attorney General of California in 2010 and she was re-elected in 2014. Harris served as the junior United States Senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sánchez during the 2016 Senate elections to become the 2nd African American woman, and the first South Asian American, to be a senator in the United States Senate. In her time as a senator, she pushed for health reform, federal descholaring of cannabis, a pathway for undocumented immigrants to become citizens, the DREAM Act and a ban on assault weapons. She also backed progressive tax reform. Her sharp questioning of Trump officials during Senate hearings has garnered her national attention, which included the second Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, who was charged with sexual assault.
